One Style Staple You Can't Live Without!

Last week we posted about fall fashion trends. For some it may have been premature but just think, Fall Fashion Week 2013 was February 27th - March 7th! Yes you read that correctly, February. Now we will jump back to reality this week and focus on what is right on our door step. SUMMER!! How exciting is that? Bikini's, short shorts, sunglasses, floppy hats, sunscreen, and don't forget your scarf to add a little something to your outfit. Last on my list but equally important is maxi dresses!

Absolutely! Maxi skirts and dresses are a wardrobe staple every spring and summer, and this year isn't any different. There are so many different styles to choose from that you have to get one for yourself. You wont regret it!

You can wear a maxi skirt casual with a pair of pumps and a loose crop top, or dress it up with a pretty pair of sandals/wedges and some glam jewellery. However you decide to wear your maxi you will look chic and trendy this season.

There are all sorts of different styles to choose from that will suit any lady. Bold block color to monochrome, pleats to tube and chiffon to jersey, all of these kinds of maxi skirts are on trend and you should make sure you have one of these in your wardrobe this season.

There are a few pro's and con's of a maxi but don't let any of it scare you away.

{Pros:}
  • Maxis are to summer barbecues as elastic waist pants are to Thanksgiving. You know you are going to want that extra piece of coconut creme pie or potato salad, now you don't have to worry about fitting or a eye sore bulge.
  • You no longer have to worry about those horrid terms "thunder thighs, pale legs, and cankles" they do not exist within the maxis vocabulary.
  • Who doesn't love a statement piece. Lace, bold patterns, pleats, color, chiffon or even jersey. These are all a check in my book.
{Cons:}
  • Take caution when walking down stairs in a maxi, it doesn't take an incredibly clumsy person to loose their footing. It will be a record breaking flight time when your shoe catches onto your trend setting maxi.
Any other cons out there have been investigated and don't seem to be as pressing. Such as your own hot house under your skirt, that can be avoided as long as you aren't sitting in a sauna. There was also another about hog tying yourself while in the middle of the grocery store, we are sure we have much more coordinated people following our blog. :)

We hope this helps persuade you this summer to go on out there and purchase a super cute maxi.

Remember it doesn't matter what styles are "in" if you don't feel comfortable choose trends and pieces that express something about you. The key to any super cute outfit is to have fun with it.

 Fashion Trends for Fall 2013

Invest in eye-catching outerwear.

Statement-making outerwear was all over the runway this season (think bold furs, oversize parkas, and cool leathers).

You will want to experiment with various colors, lengths, and textures. Don't let is scare you!

Consider the rest of your outfit when rocking these coats. Keep everything else simple.

This Fall don't forget a super-cute hat.

Cool caps were at just about every show during Fashion Week 2013!

One motto to remember: When in doubt, put a beanie on it!

You won't want to forget other types of hats you can wear this season either. Fedoras, floppy hats, and even baseball caps are at your disposal.

Embrace classic prints.
Are you sick of the floral and kaleidoscope prints from Spring? Well, say hello to classic prints like houndstooth for fall.

You will not want to shy away from this print in the office. Menswear fabrics lend a chic and professional touch to your outfits.

Keep in mind that houndstooth goes with EVERYTHING! As once said, it's basically a neutral.
Don't put away your leopard print just yet.

No your not seeing things, that is correct. One of fall 2013's hottest trends is already in your closet.

You can play with different colors of leopard this season. Classic brown and black will always be in style, so have some fun and choose a pink or red version instead.

Food for thought: don't overdo it! A little leopard can go a long way, so stick with one piece featuring the cat print.

We are going from Mint to Emerald Green!

Pantone chose the shade as its top color for 2013, so it's no wonder it was spotted all over the runways.

Don't ignore how cute emerald green can look when paired with other jewel tones, such as garnet, amethyst and sapphire.

It's a great idea to look for different ways to incorporate the shade into your wardrobe. A structured bag or high heels in this vibrant hue is like an exclamation point at the end of your ensemble.

Keep up the good work, layering!

Add interest to your fall outfit choices by piling on a few extra pieces.

Go ahead and mix textures with your pants, skirts, and tops. A sheer dress over leather pants allows you to layer without looking bulky.

You wont want to go crazy with your colors or patterns when layering though. An outfit with many components should look as streamlined as possible.

This is exciting...take a chance on Winter White!
Normally when the temperature's low, we all have a tendency to reach for those dark colors, but why not grab a winter white piece instead?

You think you can wear winter white only for a night out. A chic coat fits in at the office, and denim works for the weekend.

Save your flouncy pieces for spring. Choose weather-appropriate staples such as chunky knits, jeans, and jackets that make sense in autumn.

DO NOT bail on the peplum.

This is just a trend that will not die, so hop on the bandwagon if you haven't already!

It's best if you find the right peplum for you. Where it is placed on a dress, shirt, or skirt can determine just how good you look.

Don't underestimate how flattering a peplum can be. It can help define your waist or add curves to a boyish figure. Hey that's awesome news for so many!

You will want to rethink your leather pieces.
Leather can be a sporty, edgy, or downright womanly depending on how it's styled.

Try going for a colored leather piece every once in a while. Style it as you would a regular knit.

It's not in your best interest to try an all-leather outfit--unless you're into that whole biker-babe trend.

Absolutely fall in line with military-inspired looks!

There was a strong military presence at Fall 2013 Fashion Week, which means that khaki green is on its way to becoming a staple in your wardrobe.

Don't run from the girly versions of the utilitarian trend. How about a tailored top or slim pants?

Add accents like lace or brocade to amp up the luxe factor.

We sure hope this better prepares you for Fall 2013! So many cute things that are in style, makes us ready for all of our new stuff to hurry in. Lets just push past this hot summer, straight into Fall.
